Since 2002 it has been owned by Marlon Abela Restaurant Corporation (MARC Ltd) which is also responsible for the Michelin-starred Umu and The Greenhouse restaurants, Cassis Bistro and four additional restaurants in New York, Connecticut and Boston.
Morton’s occupies one of the most coveted spots in London, overlooking the length of Berkeley Square. Following an extensive refurbishment in 2009, the reopening of the club has seen this impressive townhouse returned to its Georgian heritage. Its classic 19th century exterior is complemented by the contemporary décor of all its rooms, creating an elegant and relaxed space.
The committee of Morton’s comprises an eclectic mix of high profile individuals from a multitude of industries including fashion, property, arts and finance, attracted by its home-from-home comfort and central location. With a growing reputation for its cuisine, attentive service and a 1,600 bin wine list, Morton’s Club is the perfect backdrop for any day to day social or business engagement.
Morton’s Club holds a treasure trove of contemporary European art – all from the private collection of Marlon Abela. From the striking Bernard Frize upon entrance, to the specially commissioned light responsive installation by UVA in the Night Lounge and the provocative George Condo in the bar, nothing can prepare you for the true showstopper, Sir Howard Hodgkin’s As Time Goes By located in the restaurant.
THE RESTAURANT MENU
The first-floor restaurant, with its lofty ceilings and panoramic balcony for summer dining, is the very heart of the house. Morton’s Head Chef, Yvonnick Lalle, has devised an innovative menu inspired by the relaxed culinary styles of the Mediterranean. The restaurant is open for breakfast from 7.30am with a competitive three course £25 menu available for lunch, a delicious tea served in the afternoon and an a la carte dinner menu available from 7pm.
MORTON’S WINES
Morton’s extensive range of wines, comprising over 1,600 bins, has been meticulously selected from across the globe by Chairman Marlon Abela and is a source of pride within the Club.
Famous names include; Chateau d’Yquem (a vertical starting from 1937 to 1996) and Vega Sicilia (1991 until 1942) as well as prestigious Bordeauxs from more than six different vintages. This affordable yet superior collection (prices start from £24 – £16,000) is complimented by our highly knowledgeable sommeliers, who are always on hand to guide members with their choice.
MORTON’S MEMBERS BAR
The bar, situated on the ground floor, is open from 11.30am Monday to Friday and 5pm on Saturday.
Designed with socialising in mind the highlight of the room is a luxurious brass long bar, spanning the length of the room. This is complimented by more intimate low slung leather sofas set before the full length windows. Panelled walls seamlessly blend old world craftsmanship with the fluid clean lines of a contemporary sleek bar.
The space exudes elegance whilst retaining a welcoming, unpretentious atmosphere where members and guests can relax.
Our Club menu offers a variety of light meals, with favourites including the Club sandwich and Morton’s salad. Snacks are available until 2.30am, and a selection of modern/classic cocktails available until 3am.
MORTON’S CLUB ROOM
The Club room, situated on the second floor, offers home- from-home comfort complete with all the modern conveniences one might expect to find in a state of the art private study. Coveted art-work and impressively stocked book shelves are just some of the features of this charming room.
The Club room can be hired for exclusive use, accommodating up to 70 people for canapés and a party of up to 24 for dinner. Equipment available includes: wireless internet, iPod attachment, plasma screen and DVD player.
THE NIGHT LOUNGE
Designed for unadulterated celebration, the basement night lounge provides a welcome distraction from the demands of city life.
Exposed brickwork is vertically lit from banquettes to ceiling and adjusts according to the dynamics and ambience of each particular party. Attention to detail is evident throughout the room. Each table has an integrated ice bucket to accommodate bottle service while the seating is upholstered with stiletto-proof fabric for the wilder party-goers amongst you!
Roger Michael, the man responsible for some of London’s best nights out, oversees the running of the night lounge. Frequently heralded as the man responsible for putting the glamour back into clubbing in the late 1980’s and 90’s his enthusiasm and creativity are helping to ensure the night lounge offers its members and friends an unrivalled nightlife experience.
MARC Fine Wines hosts the bi-monthly Wine Club at Morton’s Club. Though led by elite wine connoisseurs, these tastings are fun and informal events always culminating in a quiz for our more competitive members. An example of a recent topic we have explored is the rise of Rosé.
We’ve come a long way since Mateus Rosé graced our summer picnic tables and sales of quality rosé are rising each year.
‘Pink is the taste of summer!’ say the retailers but critics and wine writers still largely fail to consider rosé as a serious wine and far and few are the sommeliers bold enough to suggest a food and rosé wine match.
Can it be that rosé really is just a bit of fluffy fun or is rosé really a force to be reckoned with? Come along, taste our line up and decide for yourself – we think you’ll be surprised!
LIFESTYLE CLASS
Each month Morton’s Club invites a member or friend of the Club to hold an event according to their abilities or expertise. Informative, uproariously funny or just down-right unusual, each class promises the unpredictable.
Details of upcoming events are always published in the members monthly newsletter and spaces are allocated on a first come, first serve basis.
